Adding a New Highlighter to My Collection!

October 22, 2015

I'm pretty sure everyone has heard about the new MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in the shade "Oh, Darling". It's been talked about all over social media ever since pictures came out, and when I saw swatches online I wasn't too convinced to get it. Why? I felt like it didn't look like anything extraordinary and I have so many highlighters already, how much can I use, right? That's what I thought until I went to the MAC counter today just to give it a look in person.
When I first saw it I was thinking that maybe it looked similar to Becca's Champagne Pop which I wrote a blog post about. I even asked the employee if it was similar at all and she wasn't sure because she didn't own champagne pop so I was left standing there wondering if it looked alike. After asking a few questions she told me how this was going to run out of stock quickly and when I swatched it I couldn't believe my eyes. It was pigmented and swatched onto my hand smoothly. I wasn't sure about this texture of this highlighter because when I first got Soft & Gentle from MAC I thought that it felt a little chunky with the glitter and kind of hard. But this one was beautiful and I feel like it looks very glowy, it gave off the illusion of a glow from within which I really liked.

I'll be honest and say that I stood there staring at the swatch for a good five minutes trying to talk myself out of buying it. "Yeah it looks pretty but I have so many highlighters already", "How much highlighters do I need?", and "But I just bought the luminous light highlighter". What convinced me in the end was how I have so many highlighters and none of them looked like this. I thought about my Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow highlight shade which I also wrote a blog post about and realized that I really don't have any other highlighters that looked too much like this. This highlighter is also limited edition so I knew that if I didn't get it now I would regret it.

When I walked outside and saw the way it looked in the sun I almost screamed. It was gorgeous and I couldn't stop staring at it. I kept sending my friends some pictures of the swatch and they were excited to get this highlighter too.

I'm really really happy that I decided to get this highlighter, if I didn't I would probably be regretting it right now. For me I know that every time there is something limited edition I never get it and when everything is gone I always ask myself why I didn't get it. I've learned my lesson that if I want something that is limited edition then I need to get it because there is no way to ever get it once it's gone.

Are there highlighters that you're looking forward to releasing?

  1. I rarely use highlighters, but I remember owning MAC By Candlelight a few years back and loving it. It broke on a move and I haven't purchased anything else since then.

    1. I just looked up a swatch to that shade and it's so pretty. I used to not use highlighters much either but now it's part of my everyday routine.

  6. It looks so pretty in your pictures! I have to admit, I don't really use highlighters, but I've really wanted to get one. It's funny because I was actually looking at the Charlotte Tilbury one, but judging how everyone seems to really like the MAC I may be convinced (plus it looks really good here)! Lovely post - thanks for sharing! :)

    1. Thanks so much! Yeah it's such a tough decision because the Charlotte Tilbury highlight is also so pretty, but the MAC one is much more affordable.

  8. That is a beautiful highlighter! I wasn't able to get my hands on it, but it does looks amazing :). I'm glad the quality is also great because I've been let down by the quality of some products from their limited edition collections.

  12. This highlighter is gorgeous, but I have so many like this so I think I might have to pass up on it. But I might be purchasing Shaft of Gold by MAC when it releases in the UK next week xx

  14. Oooh, this is actually the first time I've heard about it. It looks closer to a gold glow compared to your other highlighters. I usually don't go for limited editions though (unless they are a seasonal item that is likely to return), because I'm scared to fall in love with a limited edition :P I might have to take a peep at the MAC counter though. Lovely golden glow!
