Winter 2020 Favorites

December 25, 2020

Winter is my favorite time of year just because of the feeling. The one thing I dislike about Winter is my skin acting up! I have oily skin, but around the winter I have dry-combination skin. Some areas can be dry/patchy and other areas can be extremely oily. This winter I added a couple more things to my skincare routine, as well as continuing to use some things from my fall rotation.

The Ordinary: Lactic Acid 10% + HA ($6.80/1 oz) was something new I wanted to try. This helps with exfoliating your skin, I have always preferred a chemical exfoliation over physical just because of how it feels/works on my skin. Other times I will use the Drunk Elephant: T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum ($90/1 oz), this has been apart of my skincare for a couple of years now. At first it was a little harsh on my skin since I wasn't used to an acid, but now my skin loves this stuff. I use these either 2-3 times a week, but never at the same time.

Since both those acids are kind of harsh, the days when I'm not using them I like to drown my face in The Ordinary: 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil ($9.90/1 oz). I always find that whenever my face is looking dry, dehydrated or feeling sensitive....this oil works like magic on helping it calm down.
This was the year of cleansing balms for me! I've been trying out a bunch of different ones. This year I really liked the Evolve Organic Beauty: Gentle Cleansing Melt ($28/4 oz). The texture reminds me of Vaseline, but once you apply it to your face (dry) and then add a little bit of water, you'd then massage it into your makeup turning it into a rich creamy milky texture. I noticed that adding a cleansing balm into my skin care routine helped with my skin a lot. When I didn't use a cleansing balm I felt like the sunscreen wasn't fully getting removed which caused blemishes.
I love toners, they're one of my favorite steps in my routine. I've been loving the Youth to The People: Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Toner with Lactic Acid ($38/4oz) but since I ran out of it, I wanted to try something new. When I was at Sephora during the sale, an employee recommended I try the Farmacy: Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Cleaning Toner with Moringa + Papaya ($28/4oz). I've really been liking it and I've noticed a difference in my skin.
Ever since I added hyaluronic acid into my skincare routine I've noticed how much better its gotten! I use this morning and night before a moisturizer. I've only been using the Glossier: Super Bounce ($28/1oz) but recently purchased The Inkey List: Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum ($7.99/1oz) - that's a new brand that I've been loving as well. They're extremely affordable and it's great quality!
My skin has been so dry lately, so when I'm using such drying products such as pimple creams or acids, I need a heavier moisturizer to lock in some moisture for me. I got the Biossance: Squalane + Omega Repair Cream ($58/1.69oz) during the Sephora sale as well after an employee recommended it.  This cream doesn't feel heavy on your skin, but it has the same effect as heavier moisturizers as it helps to bring moisture/life to your skin again.
Best eye cream in the world! I've been using this all year round and absolutely love it. I have a hard time sleeping most times, but you really do not see any dark circles or bags under my eyes. The Youth To The People: Superfood Hydrate + Firm Peptide Eye Cream ($35/0.50oz) will be something that I will be repurchasing for a long time!
This moisturizer is perfect for those days when my skin isn't feeling so dry. It's very lightweight and would be perfect for someone with combination/oily skin. This Youth To The People: Superfood Air-Whip Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid ($48/2oz)  has a really nice whipped texture to it and a little bit goes a long way.
