Food Dairies: The Golden Diner - New York, New York

August 30, 2020

So the city has a ton of cute outdoor dining spaces, and since I got back to the city I've definitely tried to support businesses by ordering food. This is my third outdoor dining experience and I decided to write this blog post because....why not! My cousin and I went to eat at The Golden Diner, located at 123 Madison Street, New York, NY.

We were out and about most of the day running a ton of errands, so by the time we had our reservation we were extremely hungry. While looking through the menu (and yelp), we were conflicted on what to order. It took us a while to decide on what we wanted to eat. We kept telling each other, "fine, if we don't get this now....we'll get it next time."

Korean Fried Chicken $14
Both of us wanted to try this but we prefer boneless wings, but after so much back and forth we finally decided to order the Korean Fried Chicken. The wings are tossed in garlic kochujang glaze, and it didn't have much of a kick to it, the sweetness was definitely overpowering it. It was crunchy due to the glaze, which had a really nice flavor to it. I would give this a 3 out of 5 stars.

Chinatown Egg & Cheese Sando $9

My cousin decided on the Chinatown Egg & Cheese Sando which was soft scrambled eggs, American cheese, hash brown patty, served on a sesame scallion milk bun. She said the softness of the scrambled eggs complimented the crispiness of the hash brown patty and would rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.

Chicken Katsu Club $15
After looking on yelp and seeing that the Chicken Katsu Club and the Golden Cheeseburger (the pickles in the photos were convincing me) seemed to be the most popular items on the menu, I had a hard time deciding. In the end I decided to try the Chicken Katsu Club since it sounded more interesting. It was a chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, cabbage slaw and bulldog sauce. This tasted amazing! I think the slaw added so much texture and really made this sandwich. I would give this a 4 out of 5

Green Tea Coffee Cake $5
This coffee cake was actually bigger than we expected for it to be. You can really taste the matcha in this, but it wasn't bitter at all. The cake was sweet but not to the point where it was sickening. The cake was slightly dry, but not too bad. Both of us rated this a 4 out of 5.

Overall, I would recommend going to The Golden Diner for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The service was amazing, the wait time for food was about 15-20 minutes after ordering, and the food was delicious.
